Claim your Tax Refund in 3 Easy Steps

Step 1: Shop

Shop at stores displaying the Global Tax Free logo and request for an Electronic Tourist Refund Scheme (eTRS) ticket upon payment. Then, present your passport for proof of eligibility.

At the airport, proceed to the eTRS self-help kiosk with your passport, goods, receipts and eTRS tickets. Process your refund by scanning your passport and following step-by-step instructions provided.

Receive your cash refund at the GST Refund Counter located at the Departure Transit Lounge by presenting your relevant documents.

What is a Tax Refund Service?

A Tax Refund Service is a privilege provided to foreign tourists in Singapore. It allows you to claim the Goods & Services Tax (GST) that you pay on purchases in Singapore. To claim your refund on the 7% GST, you must purchase at least S$100 (including GST) at shops bearing the Global Tax Free logo.

How to Qualify for Tax Free Shopping?

To qualify for tax free shopping, you must be a TOURIST who meet the following criteria:

16 years of age or above on the date of the h6urchase

Not a member of the crew of an aircraft on which you are departing Singapore

Not a citizen or a permanent resident of Singapore

Not a Specified Person*

  • on the date of the purchase.
  • at any time within the period of 3 months immediately before the date of purchase.
    OR
  • on the date you submit your claim for a refund of the GST charged on your purchases at the airport.

*Specified Person refers to an individual who has been issued the following:

A. an individual who has in force

  • any work pass issued by the Ministry of Manpower (i.e. Work Permit, Training Work Permit, S Pass, Employment Pass, Training Employment Pass, Personalised Employment Pass, EntrePass, Work Holiday Pass, Miscellaneous Work Pass and Letter of Consent);
  • a Long Term Visit Pass or Long Term Visit Pass Plus; or
  • a Student’s Pass; or

B. any of the following individual who has in force an Identification Card issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore and who is –

  • a diplomat, consular officer, an administration, technical or service staff or other staff appointed to or employed in any foreign Embassy, High Commission or Consulate in Singapore;
  • a staff appointed to or employed in an International Organisation, Representative Office or Trade Office in Singapore;
  • or a spouse or dependent child of any individual mentioned in B(i) and B(ii) above.

You can claim tax refund on ALL goods on which GST is charged except:

Goods wholly or partly consumed in Singapore

Goods exported for business or commercial purposes

Accommodation in a hotel, hostel, boarding house, or similar establishments

Goods that will be exported by freight

Receive Tax Refunds Electronically

The Electronic Tourist Refund Scheme (eTRS) enables you to electronically claim the GST you paid on your purchases in Singapore. Keep original receipts and eTRS tickets before leaving the store to retrieve the taxes on your purchases.

Then, claim your tax refunds via cash, cheque, Alipay or credit card at GST refund counters in Singapore airports, before departure.
